Pregnancy Test Kits

The early Egyptians used the method of pouring the urine of a woman on barley and wheat to determine if she was pregnant. If germination occurred in the wheat and barley then it was confirmed that the woman was pregnant. The middle ages saw a lot of piss prophets who apparently could determine if a woman was pregnant just by looking at the color of urine. We fortunately do not have to rely on primitive methods to find out the status of a woman’s pregnancy now. Advancement in medical science has enabled us to get quick results that are one hundred safe and accurate. We have what we call pregnancy test kits now.

What are pregnancy test kits? Pregnancy test kits are very easy to use uncomplicated strips that are used to test the status of a woman’s urine to determine a pregnancy. When is the best time to use pregnancy test kits?  They can be used any time of the day but the first urine sample early in the morning gives the best results. How do pregnancy test kits work?  A hormone called the human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is formed after the fertilization of the ovum with a sperm. Pregnancy test kits work by detecting this hormone in the female’s urine. The test strip has two windows at both the ends called the test window and the result window connected by a blotting tissue. Two to three drops of urine are put in the test window and the urine slowly passes through the blotting tissue towards the result window. Special chemicals in the tissue react with the hCG and the urine changes its color to red. Two parallel red lines indicate a positive result while a single red line indicates a negative result.
